Setup Guide
You'll create a small private app inside your own Shopify store, give it read-only permissions, and paste its two keys into DataRaven™. DataRaven only ever reads your store data — it can't change products, orders, customers, or settings.
The three parts, in short. The full instructions start below.
From your store admin, open the Dev Dashboard and create an app with read-only permissions.
Shopify shows exactly what the app can read. Approve it.
Copy the Client ID and Client secret into DataRaven and click Connect.
In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Apps, click Develop apps, then click Build apps in Dev Dashboard. The Dev Dashboard opens in a new tab.
Start from the admin of the store you're connecting — that keeps the app and the store together in your Shopify account, which Shopify requires. You need to be the store owner, or a staff member with the App development → Develop permission.
Click Create app. In the Start from Dev panel, name it DataRaven and click Create app.
Shopify opens a new version of your app. Fill in:
https://www.dataraven.ai/docs/connect-shopify/installed. After you install the app, Shopify shows this page with your next step.read_orders,read_all_orders,read_products,read_inventory,read_customers
Then click Release, optionally fill in the version name as 1, and click Release again.
Why these five
Every permission starts with read_ — none of them allow changes. Orders, products, inventory, and customers power your revenue, product, and stock insights. read_all_orders lets DataRaven load up to a year of order history on the first sync; without it Shopify only shares the last 60 days.
Click DataRaven at the top of the left-hand menu, and click Install app. Pick your store if asked, review the read-only permissions Shopify lists, and click Install.
Shopify will say “This app hasn't been reviewed.” That's expected: Shopify only reviews App Store apps, and this one you built yourself — the developer named under it is your own store. Shopify also lists every area the scopes can view; DataRaven only reads, and doesn't store customer names, emails, or addresses.
After you click Install, Shopify shows a short “DataRaven installed” page — you're ready for the next step.
In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Domains and write down the address ending in .myshopify.com — for example your-store.myshopify.com. This is not your public web address. DataRaven also accepts just the first part, your-store.
Back in the Dev Dashboard, open App settings. You'll see the Client ID and the Client secret, each with a copy icon. Keep this tab open — you'll copy them one at a time in the next step. Treat the secret like a password — don't email it or post it anywhere.
In a new tab, open DataRaven, go to Settings → Data Sources and click Connect on the Shopify card. Fill in:
Click Connect. When the card shows Connected, click Sync Now. The first sync also loads up to a year of order history, so it can take a few minutes.
I don't see Develop apps or Build apps in Dev Dashboard.
Only the store owner, or staff with the App development → Develop permission, can build apps. Ask the owner to do steps 1–6, or to give you that permission in Settings → Users.
After installing, Shopify shows “www.dataraven.ai refused to connect.”
That's harmless — the app is installed. It appears when the app's App URL is set to https://www.dataraven.ai, which Shopify can't display inside its admin. Carry on with step 5. (With the App URL from step 3, Shopify shows your next step instead.)
DataRaven says the app and store aren't in the same organization.
Shopify only allows this kind of connection when the app is built from the store's own admin. If you created the app from a Shopify Partner account or while signed in to a different store, create a new one starting from step 1 in this store's admin.
DataRaven says permissions are missing.
In the Dev Dashboard, open your app, go to Versions, and create a new version with all five scopes from step 3. Click Release. Shopify then asks you to approve the updated permissions on your store — approve them, then click Connect in DataRaven again.
DataRaven says the Client ID and secret weren't accepted.
Copy both again from the App settings page — no spaces before or after. Make sure the app is installed on this store (step 4). If you rotated the secret, paste the new one.
Do I need to request access to customer data?
No. Shopify treats customer details as protected data, but apps you build for your own store get that access automatically — there's nothing to request or fill out.
I need to connect a second store.
Each DataRaven account connects one Shopify store at a time. If you need multiple stores, use separate DataRaven accounts (one per brand) and create one app in each store. The multi-brand switcher in DataRaven lets you move between them from a single browser.
How do I disconnect or revoke access?
In DataRaven, click Disconnect & Delete Data on the Shopify card. This removes the stored keys and deletes all synced Shopify data from DataRaven. To cut off access from Shopify's side, uninstall the app: in Shopify admin go to Settings → Apps, open the DataRaven app, and uninstall it. Access stops immediately. You can also delete the app in the Dev Dashboard.
